Hyak Sno-Park

Hyak Snow Park looking at the sledding hill

Location

Snoqualmie Pass, WA 98068

Description

Looking for a fun winter activity for kids and your family? Look no further than Hyak Sno Park! With plenty of activities like tubing, sledding, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing, everyone will have a blast. Young children love the small slope, while the more adventurous will enjoy the steep multi-lane hill. And don’t worry, there are heated single stall restrooms available for your convenience, located right in the parking lot at Hyak Sno Park.

If you’re planning a trip, be sure to get there early! The park opens at 8:00 a.m. and there are only 150 parking spots available. You don’t want to risk being turned away with disappointed kids. Weekends can be especially crowded, but as you drive to Yak, there are signs on I-90 letting you know if the park is full.

So pack up the snow gear and sleds (you need to bring your own sled or snow tube), grab some hot cocoa, and get ready for a fun-filled day at Hyak Sno Park. See you on the slopes!

Getting There And Do I need a Permit?

Hyak is a Washington State park, so you will need a permit to enter the park. You have two options – a daily permit or a seasonal permit with a special groomed trails permit sticker. These can be purchased at the park, or online.

We suggest arriving early or later (after the morning people are done, we were told around 1pm) in the day to avoid the crowds. If you’re coming from Seattle, simply head east on I-90 and take exit 54 for Hyak. When you reach the off-ramp, make a right turn, and you’ll see the Snoqualmie summit ahead, then take the left-hand turn before the WSDOT maintenance yard. We hope this information helps and wish you and your kids a fun day in the snow!

Pack for Success

Amazon has been great for all the snow accessories – gloves, socks, snow boots, and hats.

We’ve gone through at least two sleds and tubes each winter for the past three years. We’ve found the Inflatable Snow Tube tends to go faster than the plastic ones we’ve had – some of the plastic ones have cracked (mid-run!), so we’ve tried a couple heavy-duty plastic sleds:

If you have an inflatable tube, we highly recommend investing in a portable inflator (we have it for tires and we found it useful for winter tubing!). We have the DeWalt but heard Ryobi is great too!

And we love these two-piece snowsuit sets that include a jacket and snow bib for our boys.

Snowsuits, kids grow so fast, so we try not to spend too much on snow gear for the kids. We like the two-piece sets that include a jacket and snow bib like these from Carters for our girls.
