Seattle Splash Spots: Discovering the City’s Best Wading Pools for Endless Summer Fun with Kids

Volunteer Park Wading Pool Aerial View of Young Toddler Swimming

As summer unfolds in Seattle, bringing with it the much-awaited warmth and sun, families across the city begin to seek out the perfect spots to cool off and enjoy the outdoors. When the mercury climbs above 70 degrees, there’s one summer tradition that beckons children and their families more than any other: the wading pools. With the announcement that Seattle’s wading pools will open their gates starting June 24th, anticipation is building for days filled with laughter, splashing, and the joy of simple pleasures.

However, this summer brings a slight twist to our wading pool adventures. Due to a shortage of chlorine, the 20 wading pools scattered across Seattle will operate on alternating schedules. While this may require a bit more planning, it ensures that everyone gets a chance to enjoy these cherished city oases while maintaining safe and clean environments for our little ones.

Double check hours before you go on their website, call 206-684-7796, or follow the Seattle Parks and Recreation Wading Pool Facebook page.

Essential Tips for Planning Your Visit

Essential Packing List for the Beach

After NOT being prepared one day for a wading pool stop, we like to be over prepared now…. Here’s some of our recommendations to have ready for a day at the wading pool + park:

Before you pack your sunscreen, towels, and snacks, here are a few tips to ensure your wading pool outing is as smooth as possible:

Check the Schedule: With alternating schedules in place, it’s crucial to verify the opening hours of your chosen wading pool. Visit the official website, call 206-684-7796, or follow the Seattle Parks and Recreation Wading Pool Facebook page for the most current information.

Safety First: Always keep an eye on your children, even in shallow water. Wading pools are fantastic for safe, water-based fun, but supervision is key.

Pack Accordingly: Besides the essentials, consider water shoes to protect little feet, floaties for beginners, and a few water toys to enhance the fun.
